Hyacks declaw Lions in consolation final
The New Westminster Hyacks defeated Surrey’s Princess Margaret Lions 112-81 Dec. 29 to take the consolation final of the Port Moody senior boys high school basketball Christmas tournament.
New West began the tourney Dec. 27 with a 79-58 loss to the North Surrey Spartans before rebounding in their second game to defeat the Riverside Rapids of Port Coquitlam 96-64.
The previous week, the Hyacks downed the Georges P. Vanier Towhees of Courtney 79-55 Dec. 21 to finish third at their own Bob Gair Memorial senior boys high school basketball tournament.
The Hyacks had opened the tournament by downing the West Vancouver Highlanders 82-62 Dec. 19, but then lost to Richmond’s McMath Wildcats 93-81 in the semifinals.
The North Delta Huskies downed McMath 73-60 in the final.
