Royals roll over Ooks in opening round

As hosts, the Douglas College Royals weren't kind. As competitors seeking a national college men's soccer title, they were dominant, decisive and clinical in their opening game Wednesday.

The Royals downed the defending champion Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks from Edmonton 7-1 in the first day of the tournament being held in Coquitlam. Defender Dylan Myers of New Westminster scored one of Douglas's goals with Javid Khan getting three. Devin Phelan, Mark McQuade and Jag Gill had the others.

They will take on their B.C. rivals, the Vancouver Island Mariners in the semifinals Thursday (5:30 p.m.). The Royals defeated the Mariners 3-0 in the Pacwest championship final.
