Hyacks play full tilt football
The New Westminster Hyacks head into Friday's homecoming game against the Carson Graham Eagles at full tilt.
The Hyacks offense amassed 473 total yards in a 40-0 romp over Abbotsford Collegiate at Mercer Stadium in their season opener.
Running back Aldrin Asuncion got the home side off on the right foot with a 59-yard romp into the end zone on the Hyack's second offensive play of the game. He ended the night with 128 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns.
The Clan were up 33-0 at halftime en route to their first shut out since Oct. 9, 2009.
Julian Ramirez also counted a touchdown amongst his 95 yards rushing on seven carries.
Eric Teng's interception and 33-yard run into the end zone late in the first half earned the senior defensive back player of the game honorurs. Jordan Chin was named the defensive lineman of the game.
Friday's 7:30 p.m. game against Carson Graham culminates an afternoon of homecoming activities that starts with a student tailgate party at the Moody Park Youth Centre at 4 p.m. Hyack alumni will play a special touch football game at 4:30 p.m. at Mercer, followed by a reception at 6:00.
The senior varsity game will be concluded by fireworks.
• The junior varsity Hyacks jumped out to a quick 27-0 lead over GW Graham of Chiliwack, en route to a 39-12 victory. It was their second win in as many starts. Adrian Cagampan, Mackenzie Ratcliffe, Matt Seymour, Marcel Wang, David Penalver and Tyrone Morgan scored for the Hyacks.
They host Carson Graham at Mercer on Thursday.
