Isles serve notice on Salmonbellies
Although the New Westminster Salmonbellies were just one win away from reaching the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League final, the hometown Delta Islanders served notice that last victory isn't going to come easily for the ’Bellies.
The Islanders throttled the Salmonbellies 14-4 Wednesday night at Ladner Arena. New West, however, holds a 2-1 series advantage in the best-of-five semifinal series heading into Game 4 at Queen's Park Arena on Friday starting at 8 p.m.
Although the Isles held a 4-2 lead after the first period, they put it away in the second by outscoring the ’Bellies 7-1. New West couldn't contain Delta's Mike Mallory who fired seven goals and assisted on two others.
Josh Byrne scored twice and assisted on one for the Salmonbellies with Quinn MacKay and Keegan Bal scoring singles.
Starting goaltender Frank Scigliano left the New Westminster net after Delta's sixth goal with Spencer England taking over the rest of the way as Delta outshot New West 50-42.
The winner will advance to the league final against the Coquitlam Adanacs, who swept the Langley Thunder in three games thanks to a 14-4 victory Wednesday.
