Select high school trio off to Boston
Seven New Westminster field lacrosse players will travel the continent with various Burnaby Mountain Selects squads this summer including three on the girls high school elite team.
Gaby Jones, Anastasia Kalyta and Mary McQueen, all New Westminster secondary students, will travel with that team to Byfield, Mass., near Boston for The Northern Rise tournament July 13-15, which is a showcase for Northeast United States colleges. Before the tourney they will also tour Boston College and Harvard University. The trip will conclude with a day in New York City.
Alex Friesen will play on the boys junior elite squad that will go to the Syracuse University Summer Shootout in upper New York state. The Syracuse Orangemen are 11-time NCAA champions.
Defender Matthew Buchanan and goalie Niklas Friesen will play for the Selects’ under-15 elite team and Erik Maas will be on the U13 club that will be at the University of Denver Pioneers camp this weekend.
