The New Westminster U-14 Salmonbellies won silver at the BC Field Lacrosse tier two provincial championships at the University of Victoria over the weekend.
New Westminster lost the championship final 8-7 to the Vancouver Barbarians, a team they'd beaten earlier 5-4 while going undefeated in preliminary round play. The Salmonbellies had beaten the Mission Mud Dawgs 8-7 in the semi-final to reach the final.
The Salmonbellies' Nikolas Lund-Murray was named the U-14 most valuable player. His teammate Naoll Degife won a fair play award and the team's coach, Serafino Gentile was recognized as the fair play coach.
Salmonbellies' U-12 player Ian Hunter also won a fair play award in his age division.
New Westminster teams will be playing in each of four age divisions in the upcoming tier one provincial championships, to be held this weekend at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West.
