Hyacks clinch first

The New Westminster Hyacks senior girls basketball team are riding high.

Doug Woodward's young squad thumped Burnaby North 74-35 on Tuesday to finish first in Burnaby-New West league play. They'll host semi-final and final playoff games.

On Saturday, the Hyacks finished second at the Maple Ridge Senior Girls Basketball Tournament, when they lost the final to the ninth-ranked hosts 70-66. Ariana Sider led the Hyacks with 30 points, while Jaylen Canton and Meriam Ali each scored 11. Earlier in the tournament, the Hyacks knocked off 15th ranked Gleneagle 63-58.
