How do you read into knighting ceremony?
Re: A peek inside Hyack, and a proposal to fix the mess (NewsLeader, Oct. 2)
The proposal in the above article, anathema to having the membership decide the fate of the Hyack Association and its “assets,” was more akin to the Tea Party tactic in the U.S. holding the rest of the Republican Party hostage as they try to dismantle healthcare in the U.S.
This paralyzing parallel couldn’t be missed by anyone.
What could be missed was the interesting contrast the accompanying picture of Hyack president Gavin Palmer being knighted gave to attitudes about historic ceremonies, steeped in tradition, held over to be celebrated as reminders of the past here, with some New Westminster politicians, compared to folks in Portland.
Just as Coun. Chuck Puchmayr, and those of his ilk, look with suspicion on the May Day traditional Lancers Dance, I wonder how that mindset would twist the innocence portrayed in your picture.
I can just see Puchmayr crusading off to Portland to do battle with the Portland Rose Festival organizers, reading all kinds of nuances into their knighting ceremony.
