Board chair Campbell to run for reelection

Jonina Campbell says her work as chair of the New Westminster school board isn’t finished. So she’s running for reelection in November.

Campbell says after years of turmoil, the board is finally working together and making strides. Not the least of which are the opening of a new elementary school in September, the construction of a new middle school which began in June and the ongoing negotiations to get a new high school built. The board is also making headway in wrestling its financial challenges to the ground, says Campbell.

“It has been a challenging term,” she says. “But as a board we came together and people acted collaboratively. Now we can work together as a team.”

Campbell says the stability will allow her to work toward achieving some other projects that had to be shifted to the back burner, such as an initiative to encourage more kids to ride their bike to school.

“We’ve got great teachers, great staff, but there’s work I still want to be there to do,” says Campbell.
