New West cops recognized by Alexa's Team

Seven members of the New Westminster Police Department have been recognized for their efforts to reduce impaired driving.

They've been selected to Alexa's Team, a partnership between ICBC, the BCAA Road Safety Foundation and the family of Alexa Middelaer, who was four years-old when she was killed by an impaired driver as she and her aunt fed a horse alongside a road in Delta.

To be selected to the team, officers had to take at least 12 impaired drivers off the road in the past year, either through criminal charges or an immediate roadside suspension. The New West contingent nabbed 139 impaired drivers.

They include constables, Jamie Crowston, Ted Ishii, Jeff Scott, Jeff Russell, Brandon Blue, Jaspaul Chung and Mike Wise.
