New Westminster cop charged for accident

Charges against a New Westminster police officer have been approved in connection with a motor vehicle accident Aug. 13.

Following an investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO), Const. Graham Bosa has been charged with driving without due care and attention by the Criminal Justice Branch.

The collision between a police vehicle and a van occurred at Cumberland and Harvey streets about 2 p.m. Although at first New Westminster police said neither driver sustained serious injuries, both were taken to hospital for precautionary examinations and later released. The NWPD notified IIO, but the provincial authority did not take over the case until two days later when it received new information on the injuries sustained by the 67-year-old driver of the van.

Bosa is scheduled to make his first appearance in court Jan. 29.
