UPDATE: Police trying to find caller threatening kidnap
Two other Canadian police departments received calls from a man saying he was planning to kidnap a woman like the one New Westminster police received Sept. 1.
The NWPD said they received a call on their non-emergency line from a man saying he lived in New Westminster on Columbia Street, was 29 years old, wanted to be called Fleece Johnson, and that his potential victim lived five houses down from him. He also said she was 26 years old with no children and he'd known her for five years after meeting her in a nearby pub.
New West police issued a warning to the public and asked for help identifying the man, who spoke with an accent. They provided media outlets of an audio tape of the call.
On the same day, the RCMP detachment in Thompson, Man., as well as another Canadian police department received three calls each from the same caller stating similar information.
As was the case in New West, the calls were not able to be traced so the suspect's identity and location have not been determined.
The NWPD's major crime unit continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with any information about this caller is asked to contact the NWPD at 604-525-5411 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
