Warm weather sparks rise in Queen's Park, Victoria Hill break-ins
Queen's Park and Victoria Hill residents are being warned about a rash of break and enters in their neighbourhoods because of easy access to homes during the warm weather.
New Westminster police sent a notice around in those neighbourhoods saying there's been an increase in break-ins in the early evening hours, and the target entry points have been windows and doors left open because of the heat.
The department's crime prevention team suggests residents always lock up when they're not at home or not in the immediate area, protect windows, doors and patio doors by installing secondary locking devices that still allow air flow, make the home appear occupied with lights, timers and radios, keep valuables out of view, and communicate with neighbours about activity in the area.
