Suspended New Westminster officer resigns
A New Westminster police officer suspended pending an investigation for alleged misuse of information obtained from a police computer database has resigned.
A NWPD news release said no special buyout or severance package was offered or paid to the officer.
He was suspended with pay on March 7 and an investigation was launched by the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner. His access to all police databases was also removed.
The police department said at the time of the initial allegation, the member was not on active duty. It also offered assurances safeguards are in place to protect personal information in its databases to make sure it isn't improperly accessed or distributed.
The NWPD is still required to complete the investigation and impose a penalty, if warranted. While it can't be enforced with the NWPD now that he has resigned, it would take effect if he sought or obtained employment with any other police department.
