New West officer suspended

A New Westminster police officer has been suspended with pay while an investigation is conducted for alleged misuse of information obtained from a police computer database.

Following an allegation of the misuse, the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner was brought in to launch a formal investigation, according to a NWPD press release Thursday. Chief Const. Dave Jones also removed the member's access to all police databases.

At the time of the initial allegation, the member was not on active duty, said the release which also offered assurances safeguards are in place to protect personal information in its databases to make sure it isn't improperly accessed or distributed.
