From jail to street to jail in minutes
New Westminster police nabbed a Burnaby man in a stolen vehicle just minutes after he'd been released from the NWPD cells Tuesday afternoon.
Police say at about 1:15 a patrol spotted a stolen 1996 Honda Odyssey van parked on Church Street, just a half block from the NWPD office. The van started to move, so they followed. After several quick turns the van stopped and the driver jumped out and tried to flee on foot but was quickly caught.
The officers immediately realized the man had just been released from its jail cells, and had been at the office earlier in the day to be fingerprinted for being in another stolen vehicle on Dec. 30. The man was re-booked into the cells and appeared in New Westminster provincial court Wednesday.
Kevin James Biley, 22, is facing new charges of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property under $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, and breach of recognizance.
