Best Buy closes Queensborough store
Best Buy Canada has closed 15 stores across Canada including the Queensborough Landing location in New Westminster.
On Thursday morning, a security guard stood by the locked entrance doors.
A press release said Best Buy was closing eight Future Shop and seven Best Buy big box stores. In the next three years, Best Buy plans to change its strategy by opening new small concept Future Shop web stores and Best Buy Mobile in more locations and smaller markets across the country.
Best Buy said the move is an effort to reduce costs, eliminate redundant operating systems and to optimize its real estate to reflect the market.
Employees at the closed stores will receive severance and career transition help. They'll also have a higher priority for hiring in other stores in Canada.
The company will continue to have 120 Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile, and 140 Future Shop locations across Canada.
