Power line falls across Fraser

BC Hydro engineers were trying to determine on Monday what caused a static power line to detach from a tower in Queensborough on Sunday.

The line came down about 10 a.m. falling across a road, the Fraser River and the rail yards on the mainland side of the waterway. It also clipped some cars in a Queensborough Landing parking lot.

The line hit some distribution lines cutting off power to about 85 customers, said Hydro spokeswoman Simi Heer. She added it was a non-current line that protects transmission lines from lightning strikes.

"We don't know why it came down," said Heer.

The line was cleared off by about by about 1:15 p.m., and power restored by 2:30, said Heer.
