Theatre community gathers at The Columbia
The Columbia is bringing theatre back to New Westminster.
Or at least the people who make theatre.
The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance is holding its 13th annual Making a Scene conference at The Columbia Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
The conference is a forum for Metro Vancouver’s professional theatre community to celebrate its achievements, exchange ideas and map out future plans.
This year’s theme is finding the balance between artistic expression and the practicalities of everyday life, like earning an income, staying in physical shape and maintaining relationships. Speakers include Evan Adams, a Coast Salish actor and physician who’s appeared in film and television while completing his medical studies, and Canadian producer Adam Blanshay.
The conference kicks off with a reception on the Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., followed by All You Need is [a] Laugh, featuring sketch and stand-up comedy and improv by Peter n’ Chris, Joel Cottingham, Andrew Barber, Ivan Decker and the League of Ordinary Gentlemen.
Registration for the conference is $125, $99 for students and $50 for Founders Council members, which includes a ticket to All You Need is [a] Laugh.
Tickets for the comedy show (8 p.m.) are available for all at $20 through ticketstonight.
