NextUP soirée an energizing, fun event in New Westminster

A crowd of about 200 people came out to Inn at the Quay on Saturday night for NextUP, an event that celebrated 25 people who are helping energize New Westminster.

The cocktail soirée was put together by networking group NEXT New West and The NewsLeader, and featured guest speaker Mark Brand of Vancouver's iconic Save On Meats restaurant/butcher shop, who exorted the crowd to take big risks, be brave and not afraid to screw up.

All 25 NextUP honorees received an award, and were featured on video screens throughout the evening as well as in a special video presentation, courtesy of Paul Romein at Techno Monkey Media.

There was food, drink and dancing into the wee hours, and many attendees took advantage of the photobooth that arrived later in the evening, courtesy of Fun Function. Michael Richardson of Redbrick home décor transformed the ballroom into a cocktail lounge with his furnishings, and Ray Porcellato of Cloud 9 bakery provided desserts.

The evening was staged by Heather Corbett of Evenate Creative Group, who was assisted by a committee of volunteers.
