Stabbing victim identified
The victim of a stabbing in New Westminster last weekend has been identified as January Marie Lapuz, 26.
In April 2009, Lapuz became the first transgendered person to be on the executive of Sher Vancouver, an organization supporting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered South Asians, when she was named a social coordinator according to the organization's website.
The incident occurred at a home in the 500 block of Third Avenue on Saturday around 10 p.m. The victim died in hospital early Sunday.
"The investigation remains active and on-going as we continue to look for a motive and a suspect in this case. We also need the public's assistance as the search continues for a male who witnesses spotted running from the scene Saturday night," said spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Pound.
IHIT is seeking a man described as an Asian male in his mid-20s, about five-foot-five with short black hair, muscular build and wearing a black muscle shirt and grey shorts.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-448 or email ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
