UPDATE: Three New Westminster residents killed in highway crash
Three New Westminster residents are dead after the red 2003 Ford Expedition SUV they were in rolled over on the Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Kamloops Friday night.
According to the BC Coroners Service, the three who were killed are Sada Mudaliar, 49, his mother-in-law Zaruna Begum, 60, and his brother-in-law, Shahir Khan, 41.
The driver, a 42-year woman from New West, along with a 70-year-old man from Surrey who was sitting behind her, were transported to hospital.
Logan Lake RCMP, which attended the scene, said the vehicle left the roadway near the Lac Le Jeune exit and rolled a number of times before crashing down an embankment. Witnesses, including a nurse and a doctor, stopped to administer first aid before emergency crews were able to arrive.
The highway was closed until 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
