New Westminster expresses dismay over Coquitlam's bid for RCH
New Wesrminster won't let Coquitlam move the Royal Columbian Hospital to the Riverview site, says Mayor Wayne Wright in a letter addressed to his counterpart in Coquitlam and signed Sept. 15. He expresses "surprise and disappointment" at that city's decision to ask the province to allow the move.
New West residents are proud of the role the hospital has played in their community for 149 years, says Wright in the letter, adding that today RCH is the city's largest employer and the Fraser Health region's trauma centre.
Wright also points out that the province has collaborated with the city to enhance the hospital area with a SkyTrain station and other infrastructure.
