Auditions for Nutcracker

nutcrackercontributed.jpg

The Royal City Youth Ballet Company Society is holding auditions for this year’s production of The Nutcracker, Sunday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 16. The annual production, under longtime artistic director Dolores Kirkwood, is performed by local ballet dancers aged six to 16 from across Greater Vancouver.

Everyone is welcome to try out, whether it be for the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, a Toy Soldier or a Baby Mouse.

Rehearsals start in mid-September followed by as many as 18 performances in front of thousands of people during November and December. The hard work pays off as the society aims to develop a child’s positive attitude, team spirit and self-esteem.

The first day of auditions is for those who want to become members of the company who are entitled to year-round benefits such as special tutorials. That takes place at 511 Columbia St., New Westminster with junior auditions at 12 p.m., intermediate at 1 p.m. and advanced at 2 p.m.

Open auditions for The Nutcracker production will happen Sunday, Sept. 16 at the same address. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. with auditions starting at 1 p.m.
