The premiere of Concerts on the Quay will hit the boardwalk on Sunday with the duo of Dustin Bentall and Kendal Carson.

Bentall is the son of Canadian rocker Barney Bentall who has been influenced by the cowboy sounds of Gram Parson, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Byrds. He wrote Nine Inch Nails which was named the 2008 Country Song of the Year by the Independent Music Awards of North America.

Carson was born in Calgary but moved to Victoria when she was seven years old bringing the prairie

country/roots style with her. Visits the family farm outside of Calgary also inspired her to learn the fiddle. She has toured in Europe and North America and has an album, Rearview Mirror Tears which had a hit single, I Like Trucks.

Also performing at the Quay on Sunday will be Warren Dean Flandez, who has a blend of soul, edgy hip-hop and traditional rhythm and blues.

The acts will be performing from 2 to 5 p.m.

The series continue on Aug. 26 with headliner Steve Dawson, a two-time Juno Award winner, who features a laconic singing voice to go along with his guitar work. Dawson also produces albums for artists such as Jim Byrnes. Also appearing that day will be blues musician and singer David (Boxcar) Gates.

The summer concert series is being put on by the Hyack Festival Association and the City of New Westminster.
