Educational exhibit at New Westminster's River Market
An exhibit showing off an Italian educational system will have its official opening at the River Market on Wednesday, July 18.
There will be 7,000 square feet of photographic and video narration of children's and teachers' work from the city of Reggio Emilia, Italy in the exhibition. The Wonder of Learning recounts experiences from infant-toddler centers, preschools and primary schools in Reggio Emilia. The educational and learning approaches used in the exhibit are now being utilized in a growing number of preschools, kindergartens, child care centres and schools in British Columbia.
Dr. Carlina Rinaldi, president of Reggio Children in Italy, will make some remarks at the opening gala, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 18 and is open to the public. Tickets to the gala are $30, while the exhibit is free throughout its run.
Organizers are hoping to generate dialogue about early childhood education in the province.
"Wonder of Learning is a celebration of children's capacities, presenting children as capable of exploring the world in ways that captivate the interest and imagination of people of all ages," said exhibit organizer and Douglas College early childhood education instructor Laurie Kocher in a press release.
The exhibit will be open until Dec. 8, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information go to vancouverreggioconsortium.com.
