James to continue as city poet
Candice James will serve a second term as New Westminster's poet laureate.
City council has reappointed James to the position she has held since 2010. Her second term will run from 2013 to 2016.
"It is truly an honour to be the poet laureate for New Westminster," said James in a city press release. "It is the highlight of my life and I am thankful to the arts commission and city council for the confidence they have shown in me by my re-appointment. I will continue in my quest to make our Royal City, and our Royal City poets, shine."
During her current term, said the release, James has brought a greater visibility to the poetic literary scene in New Westminster with many events held in the city throughout the year. She is currently working on Royal City Poets Anthology 2 to be launched in October.
The city has had a poet laureate since 1998. The first was Edna Anderson followed by Don Benson from 1999 to 2006.
