NewsLeader editor Chris Bryan is licking his lips at the opportunity to be one of three judges for the Royal City Farmers Market's inaugural pie bake-off on Aug. 16.
Bakers can register in advance through the organization's website or in person at the information booth at the Thursday afternoon markets in Tipperary Park. For food safety reasons, an ingredient list must be supplied but will be kept confidential until after the bake-off. There is no limit to the number of pies that can be entered. There is a minimum $2 donation for each pie entered that goes to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
Blind tasting will take place from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. with the judging being done by Bryan, Wild Rice pastry chef Caroline Levy and New West pie fan Rachel Wallace with prizes awarded in five categories.
