Fraser River Discovery Centre has ideas for spending spring break
The Fraser River Discovery Centre just might be the place to be for parents and kids during spring break.
The centre has two programs that lets families discover the world around them in a fun way.
A guided tour of the centre's Plants Alive! exhibit will be held on Saturday, March 3 from noon to 3:30 p.m. With their botanist notebooks in hand, families (children ages 5 to 8) will conduct plant experiments and record their findings. They'll also be challenged to identify plants by smell, shape, size and colour of the seed.
On the afternoon of Friday, March 23, the centre will offer a way to wrap up spring break with a hands-on tour of the newest exhibit, the Discovery Zone. Children 5 to 12 will learn about the white sturgeon that lives on the Fraser River's muddy bottom and excavate a simulated archaelogy dig. They'll also be shown ways to take action to keep waterways clean and they'll finish off with a showing of the National Film Board's Journey of the Blob. The program will run from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Both are drop-in programs with admission by donation. Group leaders or daycare operators can go to www.fraserriverdiscovery.org for further information.
