New Westminster workshop focus is 'Do You Know What Your Kids are Doing Online?'
Many parents say they feel alienated by the technology that is so intuitive to young people—one reason the New Westminster School District is hosting a presentation Wednesday, Feb. 15 titled Do You Know What Your Kids are Doing Online? as part of its Parents' Night Out series.
The event at Queensborough Middle School is a two-hour presentation that will include a focus on “Parenting in a Cyber Age” by SOLOS (Safe Online Outreach Society), as well as a local perspective on online safety and challenges presented by a specialized New Westminster Police Detective.
Events are open to all parents/caregivers in New Westminster. This series is presented by a collaboration between New Westminster School District Community Schools and Drug and Alcohol Prevention, Parks, Leisure and Culture, Fraserside Community Services Society, the Ministry for Children and Family Development, Youth Probation, New Westminster Police Department, and the New Westminster Teacher’s Union.
Refreshments and free child-minding for children age 3+ will be provided. For general attendance and child-minding, you can register by calling: 604‐527‐4567, online: www.newwestpcr.ca or show up! Kids are also welcome to attend the presentation. Additional upcoming Parents’ Night Out topics include: Building Positive Relationships with your Child, and Trends in Teen Alcohol and Drug Use.
The event Feb. 15 is from 7-9 p.m. at Queensborough school, 833 Salter St., New Westminster.
