Time to Light Up The Quay in New Westminster

The Quayside community is shining bright this month during the sixth annual Light Up The Quay event.

The Quayside Community Board’s friendly competition started Dec. 1, and the judging will be done on Tuesday, Dec. 20. The public is invited to go on a walking tour to help with the judging starting at about 6:30 p.m. at The Boathouse Restaurant. Those knowing of a balcony or display that should not be missed should be there by 5:30.

There will be prizes for residential, building, building lobby, and the Clark Griswold award for the most over the top, tacky, commercialized light display. The last category was given out for the first time last year in the spirit of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie.

As part of the promotion, those who donate a non-perishable item for the New Westminster food bank at The Boathouse between 3 and 6 p.m. daily can get a free happy hour appetizer. Last year, 500 pounds of food was collected.
