The Curious Floor, as the River Market refers to its second level, has a new, complementary addition to it, the Music Box Music and Theatre Academy.

Music director and pianist Vashti Fairbairn is offering introductions to musical theatre and the performing arts in the form of workshops and classes, as well as private instruction alongside the Vancouver Circus School on the second floor. The academy is aimed mainly at children three to 12, but there are plans for adult classes.

"Music invites the mind to work in new, extraordinary ways. For children, music helps them learn to listen, to focus, and it teaches empathy," said Fairbairn in a press release.

Performances to entertain market goers will be a regular part of the curriculum with a schedule soon to be released. For more information go to musicboxnw.ca.
