Construction of a new office building in Uptown New Westminster is set to get underway in May.

Uptown Property Group's four-storey Queen's Park West complex will be built at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Fifth Street. Uptown vice-president Bart Slotman said it will take about 10 months to complete and will have a footprint of about 7,000 square feet.

"It's designed in a manner that's respectful to the Queen's Park area to the east, but inside it's very modern in a package that respects the context of the area that it is in," said Slotman. "It has pretty high end wood windows that can be opened. There is air conditioning, but there's the option to open the windows and the air conditioning automatically turns off."

Slotman said tenants have already been secured for the project but would not reveal who they were. He did say it is well-suited for services like lawyers, accountants and notaries as well as having some regional appeal to companies.

The building will be Uptown's third office complex.
